The Brăila Suspension Bridge, the largest of its kind in Romania and third-largest in Europe, was inaugurated today. The ceremony was attended by Romanian state officials including President Klaus Iohannis, Senate President Nicolae Ciucă, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Sorin Grindeanu. Spanning the Danube, the bridge measures 1,974.3 meters in length with tower heights of roughly 193 meters. Transport Secretary Irinel Ionel Scrioşteanu announced toll-free crossing for the first five years. The bridge includes 50 sensors for condition monitoring and a lifespan of 120 years, but is not open to pedestrian traffic. Initially, traffic will be routed to Măcin, with an extension to Jijila to follow.
