Set for a September start, the North Adriatic Hydrogen Valley is a collaboration between 34 entities from Slovenia, Croatia, and the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy, led by Slovenia’s energy company, HSE. This transnational initiative secured a €25 million grant from the EU’s Horizon Europe programme and additional €354,000 funding from the REPowerEU programme, which will be allocated to the Slovenian Energy Ministry. With an annual green hydrogen production, storage, and distribution target exceeding 5,000 tonnes, the project is poised to contribute meaningfully to the decarbonisation of vital sectors and the evolution of sustainable transport. A significant portion of the renewable hydrogen, up to 3,000 tonnes, will be produced at the TEŠ thermal power station in Šoštanj, Slovenia.
