Polish energy titan, Orlen Group, is set to embark on a EUR 4.73 billion venture to establish a 1.2 GW offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea by 2026, amplifying Poland’s shift towards renewable energy. This initiative, greenlit by Orlen’s supervisory board, is spearheaded by Baltic Power—a collaboration between Orlen, holding a majority 51% share, and the Dutch firm NP Baltic Wind B.V., a subsidiary of Northland Power Inc. Building activities are scheduled to commence this year, eyeing a 2026 inauguration. Parkiet states that the project, estimated at EUR 4.73 billion, boasts a 1.2 GW capacity. Orlen’s chief, Daniel Obajtek, underscored that by 2030, the company envisions escalating its renewables segment to 9 GW. He highlighted the pivotal role offshore wind plays in this vision. In related news, another Polish powerhouse, PGE Group, in collaboration with Denmark’s Ørsted, recently secured deals for Baltica, a proposed 2.5 GW wind farm in the Baltic Sea, touted as Europe’s largest offshore wind endeavor.
