The European Steel Congress, “Steel 2023”, will be hosted in Katowice, Poland on September 18-19, attracting industry leaders from the steel production, processing, and distribution sectors. This major event aims to discuss the challenges and prospects of the steel industry in Central Eastern Europe. Notably, the conference will feature discussions on Poland’s need to invest in domestic production to reduce reliance on steel imports and create jobs. The plans to construct a new steel mill in Ruda Śląska by the state-owned company Węglokoks will also be discussed. The government’s recent recapitalization of Węglokoks group’s steel companies and the consolidation of these firms is aimed at creating a strong entity capable of competing in the European market.
