Slovenian climber Janja Garnbret has set a record by winning her 40th World Cup event in Villars, Switzerland on July 1, becoming the first athlete to achieve this milestone. Garnering her 25th lead win and 40th World Cup victory, Garnbret was the sole competitor to reach the top in both the semi-final and final of the event. Despite injuring her toe in February, she has made a strong comeback, securing second place in her first event post-injury and then winning in both bouldering and lead in Innsbruck two weeks later. An athlete with an illustrious career, Garnbret is the first Olympic champion in sports climbing, has six world titles, and four overall World Cup titles. She regards progress and enjoyment as her key motivators rather than victory count.
