OMV’s Neptun Deep project is set to make Romania the EU’s largest gas producer and OMV one of Europe’s largest, according to CEO Alfred Stern. The project will contribute 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the European market, bolstering Europe’s energy security. While OMV will continue to buy gas from Russia, Stern dismisses claims that the company is not reducing its dependence on Russian gas, citing the Neptun Deep project. Despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, OMV has no plans to terminate its long-term supply contract with Gazprom. Stern maintains that the removal of certain energy sources would cause price inflation. Furthermore, Stern announced that OMV plans to generate 50% of revenues from the chemical business by 2030, shifting focus from oil products to green fuels like hydrogen.
