Construction on the A8 motorway is underway after the National Complaints Resolution Council (CNSC) confirmed the award to Dorinel Umbrărescu’s consortium, SA&PE Construct SRL–Spedition UMB SRL–Tehnostrade SRL, for the Târgu Mureș – Ungheni segment. This award by CNAIR (National Road Infrastructure Administration Company) faced opposition from Danlin XXL, a firm reportedly linked to ex-president of Neamț County Council, Ionel Arsene. Nevertheless, the CNSC upheld CNAIR’s choice on August 25. Umbrărescu’s team now tackles a 30-km stretch between Leghin and Târgu Neamț, to be completed in 30 months. With a 1.5 billion lei budget from the PNRR, the segment is targeted for end-2025 completion.
Additionally, CNAIR greenlit the feasibility study for the A8 mountain segment of 160 km across Neamț, Harghita, and Mureș. The Miercurea Nirajului – Leghin section is set for a 2023 tender, while bids for other sections, including the 93 km Târgu Neamț – Iasi – Ungheni, will be announced by 2024.
