Romania: Hidroelectrica’s H1/2023 Profit Surge and Stock Exchange Debut

In H1/2023, Hidroelectrica announced a notable 46% increase in net profit, totaling €800 million (3.95 billion lei) compared to the prior year. Their revenues soared to about €1.42 billion (7 billion lei), indicating a 42% uplift. The EBITDA experienced a 38% spike, reaching approximately €1.01 billion (5 billion lei). The net margin was 57%, up from 55% in H1/2022. The company reported a 45% rise in net energy output and sales at 10,625 GWh, thanks to favorable hydraulic conditions in 2023, contrasting the drought-impacted 2022. Hidroelectrica’s president, Bogdan Badea, credited these milestones to outstanding operational prowess. As of April, the company secured its position as the top electricity provider, boasting a 16.11% market share. Hidroelectrica maintains its dedication to environmental sustainability, actively venturing into renewable energy sectors. Post its 2023 public offering, the Romanian state held onto 80.06% ownership of Hidroelectrica, while legal entities and individuals possessed the rest. The company proudly debuted on the Bucharest Stock Exchange in July 2023.
