Russian investments in Latvian companies have decreased to €322.01 million, a 55.54% drop compared to 2016, according to information gathered by “Lursoft”. The cumulative amount of Russian investments in Latvian companies has been declining since 2017, with the amount withdrawn from fixed capital exceeding newly invested funds. Currently, Russia ranks eighth in terms of cumulative investment amount and first in terms of the number of companies invested in, with investments registered in 3,521 companies. Grigorijs Guselnikov, a shareholder of AS “PNB Banka,” is the largest investor. The second-largest investor is the public joint-stock company “Uralkali,” with investments in SIA “Uralkali Trading.” However, sanctions and ownership changes have affected some companies. In contrast, the number of new investors from Ukraine has increased. Ukrainian investments in Latvian companies reached €107.1 million, with the number of Ukrainian investors rising from 83 in 2020 to 262 in the last year. The decrease in Russian investments can be attributed to factors such as sanctions and changes in ownership.
